Humanoids[edit]

Humanoids are by far the most populous species both within the borders of the Empire and in the savage lands surrounding it.  The more civilized races include elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and of course humans themselves.  Much less represented are those exotic or extraplanar denizens which have made a place for themselves within the safety of the Empire;  elemental kin, draconic scions, sentient insectoids, and a host of other strange and wondrous races exist in small enclaves or isolated villages.

Sadly, not all humanoids are friendly.  Savage tribes of goblins, orcs, and even feral human tribes beset the Empire regularly.  Stalwart defenders manning watch towers and hilltop forts in the borderlands prevent these incursions from spreading too far into the heartland, but the constant toll of bloodshed and warfare are the cause for many hushed conversations and frequent expeditions into the Darklands.
